Biosafety cabinets must be used in good practice to provide protection for workers. The following protective measures are recommended:

1. If the safety cabinet is closed, the blower should run for at least four minutes before it can start to work to make the biosafety cabinet "purge". Purge will remove all suspended particles from the safety cabinet.

2. Use 70% ethanol, 1:100 household bleach thinner or other appropriate disinfectant to wipe work surfaces, interior walls, inside surfaces of Windows, and materials placed in safety cabinets. When using bleach, it is necessary to wipe it again with sterile water to remove any residual chlorine, which may corrode the stainless steel surface.

3. Please put the materials into the BSC before starting the work. This can reduce the damage to the air curtain to a greater extent.

4. BSC can only place materials and equipment needed for immediate work.

5. Schedule your work flow from "clean to dirty".

6. Make sure the window sash is returned to its original position before starting work.

7. Move the arm in and out slowly to avoid breaking the air curtain and endangering the containment.

8. After the hand/arm is placed inside, the material handling shall be delayed for about one minute.

9. All operations shall be performed on a working surface at least four inches from the front grille.

10. Collect the pipettor in the safety cabinet to avoid frequent inward/outward movement. Disinfect safety cabinets before removing all potentially contaminated materials.

11. Limit other activities in the room (movement near the safety cabinet, pedestrian passage, opening/closing the door of the room) as this may also damage the safety cabinet air barrier.

Don't blame me for overemphasizing! Biosafety cabinet to develop good use habits is very important! The BSC must be routinely inspected and tested by trained personnel in accordance with strict protocols to verify that the BSC is functioning properly. Certification is carried out once a year, each time the safety cabinet is moved to be certified.
